Traveling During The Pandemic

While traveling during the COVID-19 pandemic may not be the most ideal situation, some people (including myself) are in need of a getaway. I have not talked about my situation yet on this blog, but here is a gist of it: I decided to quit my job at Walmart, after working there for a year, to become an afternoon preschool teacher at a home based center in the middle of February. Unfortunately, in June of this year, I got laid off due to the pandemic. I have decided to wait until January of this upcoming year to find another job as I figured it would be best to focus on school. Due to this, I have been home almost everyday as I take all my college classes online. I needed a chance to get away.

At the very end of May, I discovered that plane tickets to Idaho were pretty cheap. My best friend, Mandy, moved there in early March after getting married and before the pandemic even occurred, we planned on having me visit at some point. On November 14, I safely hopped onto a plane and flew to Idaho. By November 17, I was heading back home.

My parents decided that they wanted to go on a road trip with my brother and I. They decided that we would fly to Nashville, Tennessee and then rent a car, drive to a couple of states and explore, and then go back to Nashville and fly home. For most of this trip, we stayed in the car and for the most part, we were just with each other. This trip occurred from November 20th to November 25th.

Due to my trips that I took, I was able to discover what it truly is like traveling during the pandemic:

1.) Most airlines are leaving the middle seats open to help with social distancing.

2.) You need to wear a mask from the minute you enter the airport to the minute that you leave the next airport, unless you are actively drinking or eating.

3.) If you are flying, do not pick a flight on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday as the airport may be more busy.

4.) Wash your hands.

5.) Stay 6 feet away from those you are not traveling with. If for some reason you are unable to, make sure to wear a mask (even if you are outside).

6.) Do outdoor activities instead of indoor activities.

7.) Bring multiple different masks with you.

8.) If you hope to not talk to anyone, wear your headphones.

9.) Bring your own cup with you so you do not have multiple people touching the cup you are going to use.

10.) Bring hand sanitizer.

11.) Avoid touching your eyes, nose, mouth as much as possible.

12.) Have disinfecting wipes available.

13.) When getting food, use options such as the drive through, delivery, take-out, and curbside pickup instead of dining inside.

Here are some of my personal and/or favorite photos that I took while on my trips. If you want to see all of my more professional photos, go to my gallery and click on the different albums available (they will be published throughout this week).
